NABC Announces 2017-18 NJCAA Honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced today its 2018 awards for the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) including NABC Coaches’ All-America teams in three divisions. Steve Christiansen of Triton College has been selected as the 2018 NABC Coach of the Year while College of Southern Idaho sophomore Charles Jones, Jr., is the 2018 NABC Player of the Year.


Christiansen, in his 14th season at Triton, guided the Trojans to the NJCAA Division II championship, tipping Pima College in the title game, 89-85.  Triton finished the season with a 33-4 won-lost record and lifted Christiansen’s career mark to 367-96, an impressive winning percentage of 79.2.


Jones had another spectacular season for CSI, averaging 19.7 points and 3.7 assists.  The first team Division I NJCAA All-America finished his two-year career with 1,194 points and fell just one point shy of the Golden Eagles’ career scoring record.  The 6-2, 200-pound guard from Portland, Ore., netted 27 points with three assists in the NJCAA Division I championship game won by South Plains College, 98-95.
