NABC Teams of the Week: Jan. 21-27

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The NABC has selected Belmont University, Le Moyne College, York College, Keiser University and the Community College of Rhode Island as its Teams of the Week for games played Jan. 21-27. 


NCAA Division I – Belmont

Head Coach: Rick Byrd 

Belmont won a pair of road games last week to move within one game of the top spot in the Ohio Valley Conference standings. The Bruins opened their week on Thursday by defeating Murray State 79-66, ending the Racers’ 18-game home winning streak. Then on Saturday, Belmont overcame a 14-point second half deficit to hand Austin Peay its first home loss of the season by a score of 96-92. The Bruins are now 15-4 overall and 6-2 in the OVC. 


NCAA Division II – Le Moyne

Head Coach: Patrick Beilein 

Le Moyne went 2-0 last week, picking up a pair of Northeast 10 Conference wins. On Wednesday, the Dolphins forced 15 turnovers in a 66-60 victory over Stonehill – marking coach Patrick Beilein’s 100th career win. Le Moyne followed that with a 69-65 upset at No. 14 Saint Anselm on Saturday. The impressive week improved the Dolphins to 10-7 overall and 7-5 in league play.


NCAA Division III – York (Pa.)

Head Coach: Matt Hunter 

York claimed victories over Frostburg State and No. 15 Christopher Newport last week, moving into a three-way tie atop the Capital Athletic Conference. The Spartans shot 52.4-percent overall in Wednesday’s 87-75 win over Frostburg State, and then got a game-winning layup from Jared Wagner with 4.9 seconds remaining to outlast Christopher Newport 82-81 on Saturday. The wins improved York to 13-6 overall and 6-2 in conference games. 


NAIA – Keiser

Head Coach: Bob Starkman 

Keiser finished 2-0 last week, giving the program seven wins in its last eight games. The Seahawks got the week started on Thursday with a thrilling victory at No. 13 Southeastern, overcoming a 21-point second half deficit to win 69-66. On Saturday, Keiser limited Ave Maria to just 31.7-percent shooting in a 69-56 win. The Seahawks are now 12-11 overall and 8-5 in The Sun Conference. 


NJCAA/Two-Year Colleges – Rhode Island

Head Coach: Rick Harris 

Rhode Island used its high-powered offense to go 3-0 last week in Region 21 action. The Knights were dominant in their first two games, defeating Northern Essex 106-73 on Tuesday before winning 100-54 at UConn Avery Point on Thursday. On Saturday, Rhode Island held No. 5 Bunker Hill to 31.1-percent shooting in a 76-70 victory. The Knights are now 18-3 overall and a perfect 11-0 at home this season.
